Omani coinage spans the Muscat & Oman Sultanate, the Imamate of Oman, and the modern Sultanate under Qaboos and Haitham. Early Muscat issues in the 19th century used Maria Theresa thalers alongside local baiza. The Sa'id dynasty coins reflect Oman's maritime heritage as a trading empire stretching from Zanzibar to Baluchistan. Sultan Qaboos (1970–2020) issued a remarkable series of commemoratives celebrating Omani culture, wildlife, and archaeological sites.
The Imamate baiza series (1950s) is the specialist rarity — small mintages and historical significance. Muscat & Oman coinage (1940s–1960s) bridges the old and new eras affordably. Qaboos-era proof sets in silver and gold are the prestige collectibles — the wildlife and heritage series are particularly sought. The 2020 "Haitham" first-year coins mark a new collecting chapter.
