موريتانيا
Mauritania's national currency, the ouguiya, was introduced in 1973 replacing the CFA franc after independence. Mauritanian coins feature the star and crescent on most issues, with commemoratives reflecting the country's position as a bridge between Arab North Africa and sub-Saharan Africa. The series is compact but historically meaningful — from the first ouguiya issues under President Ould Daddah to modern bimetallic coins.
The complete Mauritanian series is achievable — a small, focused collection covering the nation's entire monetary history. First-issue ouguiya (1973–1974) are the key dates. Proof and specimen pieces are extremely rare and not well-documented — discoveries still occur. An ideal collection for collectors who prefer depth over breadth.
