الإمارات العربية المتحدة
The UAE began issuing its own coins in 1973, two years after federation. Prior to independence, the Trucial States used Gulf rupees and the brief Qatar & Dubai currency. UAE coinage under Sheikh Zayed (1973–2004) features the saker falcon, dhow, and oil derrick — symbols of national identity. The series under Sheikh Khalifa and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed has expanded with numerous commemoratives celebrating UAE heritage, space exploration, and Expo 2020.
The complete Zayed-era circulation set (1973–2004) is achievable and historically important. Gold commemoratives from the Abu Dhabi and Dubai central banks are investment-grade pieces. Pre-federation Qatar & Dubai coins (1966–1973) are scarce and popular as historical predecessors. Proof sets from the UAE Central Bank's early years (1976–1980s) are the specialist's target.
