Moroccan coinage reflects the country's layered history under the Alaoui Sultanate, French and Spanish protectorates, and modern monarchy. The Alaoui sultans struck silver dirhams and gold benduqis from their royal mints at Fes, Marrakesh, and Meknes. The French protectorate (1912–1956) introduced francs alongside traditional issues. King Mohammed V and Hassan II presided over a numismatic revival, issuing coins that blend Arabesque design with modern minting standards.

Specialist area: Alaoui-era bronze falus are numerous and inexpensive — a great entry point. Silver dirhams from the late Sultanate (Moulay Abdelhafid, Moulay Youssef) are competitively priced. The French protectorate series (1921–1956) is complete-able on a moderate budget. Hassan II gold proof sets remain the pinnacle for serious collectors.
