ليبيا
Libya's coinage history moves from Ottoman provincial issues through Italian colonial piastres, the independent Kingdom of Libya under King Idris I (1952–1969), and the Gaddafi-era Libyan Arab Republic and Jamahiriya. The Kingdom era produced portrait coins of Idris I — the only Arab king never to appear on his own circulating coins. Republican issues feature the iconic equestrian — the El-Fateh Revolution's symbol — and the FAO commemorative series of the 1970s.
Kingdom-era piastres (1952–1969) are the collecting cornerstone — affordable and historically significant. The 1952 independence series is a key set. Gaddafi-era proof commemoratives in silver (1970s–80s) are undervalued in the current market. Ottoman Libyan issues (Tripolitania, Cyrenaica) from the 16th–17th centuries are rare and require specialist knowledge.
